What's With The Boats?

Question:  We wonder why you use a white boat with no sponsor stuff on it for your show, but see you also use another that is all dolled up with blue and sponsors?- Don

Answer:

Don, that is a really good question, and one that I would be interested in myself if I was watching.

First off, as you may know, Joey and I are both tournament fishermen, and our boats and trucks are great platforms to promote our sponsors.  Most tournament anglers use "wraps" to show off their sponsors, which are essentially huge decals that cover the entire boat. 

One of the annual routines we go through with our boats, however, is to take off the sponsor wraps to get them ready for selling.  My boat is the white one, and I actually had my boat wrapped in logos before we started to film, but was actually planning on selling the boat to get a new one, so I removed them a couple months before, while Joey kept his on.  I also had floor decals installed as well, and if you look real close you may be able to see slight differences in the color of my carpet, where the decals used to be.

Joey's boat is still has his tournament wrap on it showing off his sponsors, which works pretty good, since Bass Pro Shops is one of our partners anyways.  

Now, during the show, Joey and I trade off who's boat we will fish off of during a certain trip.  It's a good arrangement, and it allows both of us the opportunity to fish in a familiar boat at least half the time.  

One interesting thing that I learned after the fact is that the color white is hard to film.  The camera guys would hate using my boat for filming since the white would dominate the screen and make everything else look dull.  Looks like I won't be buying a white boat again anytime soon!

We found out that white is actually a poor color for filming, which is why you won't see us wearing a white shirt, or hat, anytime soon.
